Town Moor Care Home has welcomed a new member to the team and it’s someone already making a big impact with her creativity and four-legged friends!
Jayne Moore joined the team as Activities Coordinator just over three months ago and has already made a lasting impression. With a background in care and education, Jayne brings plenty of experience and a natural ability to engage with residents.
Before joining Town Moor, Jayne worked in a similar role at another care home. Prior to that, she spent 16 years supporting children with additional needs in a school and also cared for her own mum, who had dementia.
“I was drawn to Town Moor straight away,” Jayne said. “There’s a really lovely feel to the place and I wanted to be part of that, to help the residents feel happy, engaged and valued, it’s what I love doing!.”
Jayne’s approach is all about getting to know each resident as an individual. Whether it’s making them laugh, taking the time to listen, or adjusting activities to suit different abilities, she puts the residents at the heart of everything she does.
“I always ask what they’d like to do and try to keep things light, fun and relaxed,” she added. “The most important thing is that they know I genuinely care.”
She’s also brought something a little different to the role, her animals. From Olive the Maltese dog who’s become a favourite with residents, to Shelley the tortoise who recently spent time being fed and bathed by the team, Jayne’s pets are always a talking point. The guinea pigs have even had their own afternoon visit, being held and gently brushed.
“It’s lovely to see how the animals bring out a different side to our residents,” Jayne said. “They spark memories, start conversations and just lift the mood.”
Claire Pegg, Manager at Town Moor, said: “Jayne has fitted in so well with the team, and the residents have really taken to her. She brings great energy, listens to everyone, and has such a lovely way with people. You can see how much the residents enjoy spending time with her, she’s made such a positive difference in such a short time.”
Jayne also enjoys putting on themed days to celebrate different cultures and occasions. After discovering that one of the residents was Italian, she organised an “Italy Day” complete with flags, food and a few Italian phrases.
